Wood

Wood is the element of growth and prosperity, of creativity — and also of expansiveness. It is the first stirring of spring, the force that pushes a young shoot through stone, the slow unfolding of destiny.

In a person, Wood corresponds to decisiveness — and to anger. It is the energy that moves forward, breaks through, expands. When balanced, it becomes vision and initiative. When excessive, it turns into irritation and impatience.

Wood is the element of the East, of morning, of the beginning of every cycle. It reminds us that growth is not a straight line — it branches, curves, and finds its way toward the light.

Wood is tied to the Liver and Spleen — the organs that plan the body's growth. Its planet is Jupiter, the great benefic. Its taste is sour, the taste of ripening. Its color is green, the color of the first leaves of spring.
